The new Center for Research on Fostering Character focuses on building grit and determination in children. Located in a historic building, the multi-level space combines engaging playground elements with mental and physical challenges. Color-coded activity areas correspond to heart, mind, strength, and will and include:

• Multi-level climber

• Cylindrical climbing structure

• (Im)perfection game

• Collaborative digital pixel wall

• Adjustable sliding board

• Variable-distance monkey bars

The Center also includes an observation area, which allows researchers to observe how adjusting the skill level of various components can encourage school-aged children to persevere through challenges.
